Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya's economy β contributing 33% of GDP and employing over 40% of the workforce. With climate change, food security concerns, and growing population, the demand for agricultural and environmental professionals has never been higher.
To pursue agriculture or environmental careers, you must choose the Applied Sciences track under the STEM pathway in Grade 10. Your core subjects will be:
Biology and Agriculture are MANDATORY for most agricultural careers. Without them, you cannot enroll in agricultural courses at university.
What They Do
Agronomists study crops and soil to help farmers grow more food efficiently. They advise on planting, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation. In Kenya, agronomists work with large farms, agribusinesses, government (Ministry of Agriculture), NGOs, or as consultants.
