I was a student who struggled with science revision materials — so I decided to stop that problem once and for all. EdVibe is not about making headlines. It's about making science make sense to students who need it.
The person behind EdVibe
My name is Mwanzia Lewis Mutua — a Kenyan teacher-in-training, a self-taught fullstack developer, and the founder of EdVibe, a free online science platform built for students who need quality learning without paywalls, subscriptions, or mandatory sign-ups.
I am a 4th-year Bachelor of Education (Science) student at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), specialising in Chemistry and Physics. I was born in 2005, which means I am young — but the problem I'm solving doesn't wait for age.
Outside the classroom, I build things for the web. I work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and React. Coding is my hobby; teaching science is my profession; and combining the two is what EdVibe is.
I was a student who struggled with science revision materials. I decided to stop that problem once and for all.
EdVibe was born in 2024 while I was balancing my university studies with taking care of my siblings at home. I authored every KCSE Chemistry and Physics note on the platform myself — not because someone paid me to, but because I needed them for my own training, and I refused to let the next student struggle alone in silence.
What started as personal notes grew into a mission: a science platform that promises to remain entirely free of paywalls and mandatory sign-ups. Every quiz, every diagram, every flashcard — built for the student who has no one else to ask.
Mission: To see every science student have every material they need — mostly African learners, and learners outside Africa too. No scientist should lose interest because they lacked resources. Unless they simply don't have intrinsic motivation — and even then, I want EdVibe to be the spark.
Vision: To see EdVibe serving learners on the site, on social media, and even physically — in classrooms, study halls, and workshops across the continent and beyond.
No paywalls, no subscriptions, no mandatory sign-ups. Ever.
Step-by-step explanations. Complex topics made simple.
Built for the KCSE syllabus. Scaled for the world.
Made by a student who struggled. Kept free for the next one.
Completed KCPE. Served as a school prefect and Science Captain — a first hint of a life devoted to science.
Completed KCSE. Held roles as Class Prefect, Timekeeper (Form 2), Christian Union Vice Chairperson, and Class Prefect again in Form 4. Leadership was never a title — it was a habit.
My first teaching attachment — the moment the abstract idea of "becoming a teacher" became a lived reality in front of real pupils.
